After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them on ahead of him, two by two…
During the first weeks of Catholics for Life, our apostolate’s founder Gabriel had so many plans for trainings, outreaches, and many other projects. One morning that changed. He knew no one was at the Columbus abortion facilities all afternoon as dozens of mothers were arriving; yet he was only planning to go to Planned Parenthood for short time after Mass so that he could leave and work on other items. Immediately before going up to receive Our Lord in Communion, he felt Jesus speak so clearly to his heart asking why he was starting this apostolate. First, the wrong answers came to mind, then the correct one. He answered, “Lord, it is not to build up myself or a ministry. It is out of love for the babies who are dying.” The words of His response were a two-edged sword in Gabriel’s heart: “Then, why are you not where these children need you most urgently?” He was planning to go to the place where they are being killed, but only for an hour. Then, he was planning to move on to other tasks and leave the babies without anyone to speak for them. After Mass that day, he went to the facility and prayed and counselled until they closed. He was deeply convicted by God’s grace to always be at Planned Parenthood above all other tasks if no one else was there while clients were arriving. We finally made the same commitment to Your Choice Healthcare, the other facility in central Ohio. In the spirit of that call which Our Lord placed on his heart that day, we are launching our 70 Disciples Initiative (Luke 10:1-2). We are asking others to answer this same call so that every hour the local abortion facilities are open, someone is there praying and offering Christ’s love.
The two abortion facilities in Columbus are open 70 hours per week. If people were to go weekly in pairs for two-hour shifts, it would take a total of 70 people (70 Disciples) to cover both abortion facilities. Between the times that Greater Columbus Right to Life, Created Equal, individuals, and Catholics for Life are already out there, we only need 16 more people to commit themselves to work regularly to rescue children from abortion. Please see our 70 Disciples page for more information on this initiative and the times we need filled. Please pass it on to others, ask to display it at your church, etc. We, and more importantly the babies, would be so blessed if you could take a shift, or just go for an hour or thirty minutes, even just once month. If you do not live in central Ohio, hopefully this can help you start a similar initiative for the abortion facility closest to you. Aside from launching this initiative in February, we were able to present to the Ohio State Council of the Knights of Columbus, host a table at the annual Catholic Men’s Conference in Columbus, give a training on the abortion pill during our monthly Torchbearers event, lead a street evangelization with a pro-life focus at the Ohio Statehouse (where two different fathers showed great interest in being baptized and bringing their families to Mass), lead outreach at Franklin University, and help a mother who kept her baby after meeting us at Your Choice Healthcare move her family from Lima to Blacklick for a new job. While counseling this month, we gave literature to 30 mothers (several who had just taken the abortion pill), saw 4 mothers turn-away and leave the facilities, reached two post-abortive fathers, evangelized two people on the sidewalk, filed a report for stolen signs, and had a mother confirm she was going to keep her baby! Praise God! All is worth it for just that one life! Thank you so much for your generosity to support our ministry expenses, including the signs and literature we use, and our missionaries' incomes so that we can be on the sidewalk 30 hours per week! May God bless you!
