Our monthly Torchbearers initiative has been growing! In June, we had nine people participate! This was the first time we had a training held at a church after St. Catharine’s (Bexley, OH) graciously let us use some space. This was especially a blessing since we were able to pray before Our Lord in their adoration chapel a couple times that day. For our training, we went more in depth on sidewalk counseling, watching videos and learning from pro-life heroes like the Scheidlers.
After Mass, we conducted our usual street evangelization at the Ohio Statehouse. We had several conversations about abortion and were able to pass our pro-life literature along with holy cards with the Gospel. Three people took rosaries from our table. We were also able to offer resources to a homeless woman named Tiffany. One of the most powerful encounters was a young man who stopped by twice to tell us how much he mourned his two siblings killed by abortion. He was a non-practicing Catholic who wanted to return to the faith and was so excited to take a rosary and Miraculous Medals saying, “I need these!” After our street outreach, we arrived at Planned Parenthood to find that they had closed early, which is always a good thing!
Apart from Torchbearers, we have been filling multiple shifts at Planned Parenthood two days per week. While out on the sidewalk, we have the ability to share Christ’s love with those at the abortion facility, but also those passing by. One day, I helped a woman get her car started and was able to change the mind of the man with her on abortion! Another time, we had a young man change his mind on abortion and take a holy card with the Gospel, a woman stop to thank us and take another holy card as well as a rosary and Miraculous Medal, and a group of three kids talk to us which resulted in the one who was pro-choice changing his mind- all in a few hours. Those streets allow us to minister to so many!
I also wanted to share that on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, I planted St. Joseph, St. Benedict, and St. Michael medals all around the property to join the Miraculous Medals I had planted when Catholics for Life first started. The next four Fridays, they were closed! Praise God that babies are not dying! I know our prayers and efforts have something to do with it! Pray that soon we see them close completely! Thank you for partnering with our missionary efforts to make that a reality! May God bless you!
